The kids have moved away, and now you suddenly find yourself with an additional room in the house. Unless you’re in dire need of a home office, why not make that extra room into a game room? After all, you’ve worked hard enough, now it’s time to play, and the game room can be a room full of exhilaration and fun.

There was a time when you could only afford the luxury of a game room if you had a basement, and that usually meant a couch and a snooker table. However, in this age of technology the game room most likely will have a big screen TV and a game console with lots of video games. Few will still have a billiard table. One reason is because most rooms are not as big as a basement and a pool table would take most of the space available.

Since this should be a family room, or a room for you and your friends to get together for fun, why not add a game table you are able to use to play board games, and perhaps a soccer table, or an air hockey game table. These won’t take up as much room as a pool table. If it’s in your budget, a jukebox can add to the fun and atmosphere!

Besides, having a well decorated house for this holiday gives you the perfect excuse to frighten the evil out of some young ghoul or vampire that thinks he or she has the market cornered on frightening. For those who enjoy the sea and everything it represents there’s no better theme to bring into their home decorating plans than a nautical theme. The theme itself is perfectly lovely and suitable for homes and homeowners that are not so in love with the mystery and romance of the deep blue sea. One of these ways is by using darkly stained wainscoting for the lower half of your walls along with a chair rail in order to imitate the wooden interior of finer sailing ship. Another great idea is to use a marine shade of blue for curtains and window coverings and have them made of the same type of materials that sail covers are made of on a sailboat. If you are truly ambitious you could elect to paint the walls in this marine shade of blue and select another color for the curtains or wooden blinds instead.
